Air duct cleaning in the United States and the rest of the world is still in the early stage. Air duct cleaning generally refers to the flossing of the heat and cooling systems. These include cleaning the supply and returning air ducts, registers, heat and cooling coils, drip pans, fan motor, and fan housing. Air ducts can be from indoors or outdoors. Studies show that air ducts can be from cleaning, smoking, and cooking both inside and outside homes. Air duct cleaning is not necessarily a health control measure and does not mean that air dust cleaning helps you to be safe from disease. Although you usually clean your dust you should also take health measures as per your doctor’s instructions.
You can consider cleaning your ducts if there is mold growth inside their hard surfaces. These molds usually are found in the sheet metals, heating and cooling systems inside our homes. The molds inside the hard surfaces in our homes make it hard for the inspections of these systems to be made. But not all substances in these systems are mold, so for on to confirm some laboratory tests should be made by an expert. These experts can differentiate a simple substance from a mold and know the conditions that cause this mold to prevent them from happening in the future. The ducts in most homes are also infested with rodents like rats which cause holes hence damaging the air circulation systems.
If there are molds or the ducts are infested with rodents, solving the problem by cleaning, retrofitting, and replacing them cannot be the solution if the real cause is not found hence there would be a continuous occurrence of the problem.
Current research shows that cleaning the cooling and heating systems (cooling coils, fans, and heat exchangers) can increase the performance of these systems and hence have a long operation life though there is little evidence that only cleaning the air ducts may increase the efficiency of the whole air system. Air duct cleaning is always done not to prevent health issues in homes but basically to have clean air circulating in the air ducts. The air-cleaning services may advise you to use the chemical biocides to kill bacteria and fungi in the duct but mostly you should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of these chemicals. And also the use of sealants in the air ducts to prevent dust and dirt air particles from contaminating the air may be a good control though it also has its adverse effects.
You may use all cleaning companies to clean your air ducts but the most effective way to prevent contamination of air in your home is to prevent dirty water and air from entering your air ducts.
